Your privacy, simply.

01Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how EnergyPricing ("we", "our" or "us") collects, uses and protects your information when you use our iOS app and its Apple Watch app. EnergyPricing helps people in the Netherlands track real-time electricity and gas prices, and the expected output of their solar panels, to get the most out of a dynamic energy contract.

02Information we collect

What you provide

• App settings: custom fees, tax rates and contract details you enter to personalise calculations.
• Preferences: display settings, notification preferences and widget configurations.
• Solar panels (optional): if you set up solar, your roof's location, the panels' tilt, their direction and the total peak power. See Solar forecast below.
• Feedback: comments, suggestions or bug reports you submit through the feedback form, plus a screenshot or video if you attach one. Adding your email address there is optional; we only use it to reply to you. See Feedback below for the diagnostics the app adds.

Automatic

• Energy price data: the app downloads prices and provider tariffs from its own server. No account or personal data is sent with these downloads.
• App usage: pseudonymous usage analytics, described under Analytics below.
• Device info: iOS version, device model and app version, sent with analytics and with feedback, for compatibility and support.

What we don't collect

• Personal identifiers such as your name or phone number. Your email address only if you choose to add it to feedback.
• Your phone's location. The app never tracks where you are. The only location it uses is your roof's, and only if you set up solar. (Analytics does record an approximate city from your IP address; see Analytics.)
• Your home's actual energy consumption.
• Financial or payment information.
• Data from other apps or websites.

03Feedback

When you send feedback from inside the app, it adds a few diagnostics so we can reproduce your problem without asking you for them:

• App and device: app version and build, iOS version, device model, language, region and time zone, when you first opened the app and how often you've launched it.
• Settings: your provider, whether you changed the fees, VAT, gas, the 48-hour view, which notifications are on and whether notifications are allowed, whether widgets are installed, whether you have Plus.
• Solar setup: whether solar is set up, the peak power (kWp), tilt and direction, whether a roof location is set, whether you use your own Forecast.Solar key (yes or no, never the key itself) and the location permission status. Not your roof's coordinates and not your address.

The feedback form on this website sends only what you type and attach.

04Solar forecast

Setting up solar is optional. If you do, the app needs a few details about your panels to predict what they will produce today and tomorrow.

• Roof location: you place your roof by searching for an address or picking a spot on the map. You can also tap "Use current location", which asks for location permission once and takes a single, rough reading. Address search uses Apple's map services.
• Tilt and direction: you can measure these by holding your phone against a panel. The phone's motion sensors and compass are read on your device only. Those readings are never sent anywhere.
• What is sent to Forecast.Solar: to get a production forecast, the app sends your roof's latitude and longitude, the panels' tilt, their direction and the total peak power to Forecast.Solar, a third-party service. The request goes straight from your phone to Forecast.Solar, so like any internet request it comes from your IP address, and Forecast.Solar's own privacy policy applies to it. The app sends nothing else, and never your name or email.
• Your own API key (optional): if you enter a personal Forecast.Solar API key, it is stored on your device and only sent to Forecast.Solar with your forecast requests.

Your solar details are stored on your device. You can change or remove them in the app's solar settings at any time.

05Analytics

The iPhone app uses PostHog for usage analytics, on PostHog's EU cloud (eu.i.posthog.com, servers in Frankfurt). We use it to see which features get used and where something goes wrong, so we can fix bugs and decide what to build next. The Apple Watch app sends no analytics.

What is recorded

• Events: when the app is opened or sent to the background, which screens you open and which features you use (for example scrubbing the chart, changing the calculator's hours, turning a notification on).
• A settings profile per install: your app settings as they are now, such as your provider, which display and notification options are on, whether solar is set up and the panels' peak power, whether you have Plus, your language and how often the app has been launched.
• Device details: device model, iOS version, app version and language.
• Approximate location from your IP address: when an event arrives, PostHog looks up an approximate location (country, and usually city) from your IP address and stores that. The IP address itself is discarded and not stored.

What it is linked to

Events and the settings profile are tied to a random ID that the app creates on your device. That makes the data pseudonymous, not anonymous: we can see what one install did over time, but the ID is not linked to your name, email address or Apple ID, and the app never sends those to PostHog.

Analytics never include your roof's coordinates, your Forecast.Solar API key, your email address, the text of your feedback, or any payment details.

Opting out

The app has no switch to turn analytics off. The iOS setting under Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements controls what Apple collects, not PostHog. To have your analytics data deleted, or to ask us to stop using it, send a message through the feedback form and mention "privacy". Because the data isn't linked to a name, it helps if you send that message from the feedback form inside the app (Settings → Send feedback or ideas), so we can match the device details.

06How we use it

• Service: show accurate prices and cost calculations based on your settings.
• Personalisation: match the app to your provider and contract.
• Solar: show your panels' expected production and value it at your provider's terugleververgoeding (feed-in rate).
• Improvement: analyse pseudonymous usage data to fix bugs and improve features.
• Widgets and Apple Watch: keep Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets and the Apple Watch app up to date.
• Support: respond to feedback and provide technical help.

07Storage and security

Local storage

Most of your data is stored locally on your device using iOS's secure storage. This includes your custom settings, preferences, solar details, your optional Forecast.Solar API key and cached price data for offline access.

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch app gets its prices from your iPhone, directly over Apple's WatchConnectivity link between your own devices. This sync does not go through our servers.

Security measures

• All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption.
• We follow iOS security best practices for data storage.
• No sensitive personal information is transmitted to our servers.

08Sharing and third parties

Third-party services

• Our own server: the app downloads electricity and gas prices (from the EPEX day-ahead auction) and a settings file with provider tariffs and tax rates from the app's own server. These are plain downloads: no account or personal data is sent.
• PostHog (EU): usage analytics, as described under Analytics.
• Forecast.Solar: only if you set up solar, as described in Solar forecast.
• Resend: delivers feedback form messages, with any attachment and your optional email address, to our inbox by email.
• Apple services: the App Store (the Plus purchase is handled by Apple; the app only learns whether you own Plus) and Apple's map services for the solar map, address search and "Use current location". If you have turned on sharing with app developers in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple also passes on crash reports and statistics; that is Apple's analytics, controlled by that setting.

Our policy

We do not sell, trade or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties. We only share data when required by law, to protect our rights, property or safety, or with your explicit consent.

09Your rights and choices

Data control

• Settings: modify or delete your app settings, including your solar details, at any time.
• Location: you can withdraw location permission at any time in iOS Settings. Solar keeps working with a location you enter yourself.
• Deletion: uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
• Analytics: there is no in-app switch. Ask us to delete your analytics data or stop using it through the feedback form, as described under Analytics.

Requests

For any data-related requests, questions about your information, or to exercise your privacy rights, use the feedback form.

10Children's privacy

EnergyPricing is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have, please contact us immediately.

11International users

EnergyPricing is designed for the Dutch energy market. While the app is available from anywhere, the price data and calculations are only relevant for people in the Netherlands with a Dutch dynamic energy contract.

12Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date, and for material changes we'll notify users through the app or this website. Your continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.

This Privacy Policy is designed to comply with:

• General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
• Dutch GDPR Implementation Act (UAVG).
• Apple App Store privacy requirements.
• iOS privacy and security guidelines.
