What does dynamic energy pricing actually mean?
A dynamic-rate contract charges you the wholesale EPEX price for each hour (or 15 minutes), plus your supplier's mark-up, energy tax and VAT. Prices change throughout the day and can occasionally go negative when there's a surplus of wind and solar. The app shows the all-in price you actually pay.
Is the app really free?
Yes. The core app — live prices, charts, widgets, the appliance calculator, the plain-language daily summary, provider auto-setup, and correctly displayed negative prices — is free forever, with no ads and no account. EnergyPricing Plus is a single one-time €2 upgrade that adds the 48-hour forecast, push notifications and Live Activity.
Does it work on Apple Watch, iPad or the Lock Screen?
Yes. EnergyPricing runs on iPhone and iPad (iOS 16+), and offers Home Screen widgets, Lock Screen accessory widgets and a Dynamic Island Live Activity for the cheapest window. An Apple Watch complication is not included today.
Where do the prices come from, and when do tomorrow's prices appear?
Prices come from the EPEX day-ahead auction for the Dutch market, the same wholesale prices your dynamic-rate supplier bills you on. The auction closes around midday, results are published in the early afternoon (Amsterdam time), so tomorrow's prices normally appear in the app from roughly 13:00 onwards. Prices are set per hour, or per 15 minutes where quarter-hourly pricing is already in use, and every time shown in the app uses the Europe/Amsterdam timezone. Gas uses a daily index, so there is one gas price per day. The app refreshes in the background and its widgets update on the hour (or per quarter-hour with 15-minute data).
What's new in the latest version of EnergyPricing?
Version 2.6 (July 2026) adds a plain-language daily price summary at the top of the main screen, with an optional daily push at midnight; Today and Tomorrow tabs in the appliance calculator so you can plan around tomorrow's prices (needs Plus for tomorrow's data); and a Plus alert when tomorrow's prices spike above twice the weekly average.

Data & updates
Electricity prices come from the EPEX day-ahead auction for the Netherlands — the wholesale prices a dynamic-rate contract is billed on. The auction closes around midday and results publish in the early afternoon, so tomorrow's prices normally land from about 13:00 (Europe/Amsterdam). Prices are hourly, or quarter-hourly where that's live; gas uses a daily index. On top of the wholesale price the app adds your supplier's purchase fee, energy tax and VAT to show the all-in price you actually pay.
